Whether it’s spending more time outdoors or revising the order of your priorities, there are a ton of ways to start 2021 on a high note!

The start of a new year is often a time to wonder about what could be improved in our lives, or what could make us happier. The key to keeping good resolutions is to set realistic, achievable goals that are fulfilling, not stressful, if you can’t achieve them. Here are five easy tips to start the year off right!

1. Review the order of your priorities

You’ve probably already made a list of your desires and projects in your head but to focus on what really matters, write them down in order of importance on a piece of paper. Set a list of achievable goals from your two biggest motivators. For example, if you want to “be more energetic,” make a promise to yourself “to workout twice a week”. By focusing on just two or three goals, you are more likely to follow through. Accepting the idea that you can’t do everything or succeed at everything is the best way to go!

2. Be grateful

Clinical trials have shown that thinking about the things that make us happy can lower blood pressure, boost the immune system, and even help you sleep better. It requires almost no effort. You just need to make a list of the things you are thankful for in your life and focus on what gives you happiness or pleasure, rather than on the little hassles of everyday life.

3. Get out of your comfort zone

A good start to the year also means setting new goals to get out of your comfort zone. It’s never too late to take risks and learn something new, from learning to play an instrument to yoga to foreign languages. The main thing is to persevere and not to get discouraged at the slightest difficulty.

4. Go outside

Before you jump on your coffee machine to wake up, have you ever thought about going out for some fresh air? Not only will you improve your fitness, studies have also shown that walking outside for twenty minutes is as effective as a cup of coffee. A short walk boosts creativity and provides a good dose of vitamin D, essential for staying healthy.

5. Think about yourself

Make a list of all the things that make you happy and make sure you include them in your daily life. Listening to your favorite song when you wake up, taking a nap after lunch, watching your favorite tv show in the evening… Happiness sometimes depends only on a few details, whether it’s getting into meditation or simply spending more time with those you love. No matter what gives you joy, do it! Don’t hesitate to make small changes to make your everyday life lighter and enjoy your free time more.
